Monroe, Utah: Your Adventure Basecamp
Our journey kicked off in Monroe, a quaint town surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. Paragliders can be seen soaring above Monroe Peak, and ATVs are a common sight on the miles and miles of trails in the area.

Start your day with a soak at the popular Red Hill Hot Springs (also known as Monroe Hot Springs). Visit first thing in the morning for some relaxation and rejuvenation without a lot of crowds. Or visit at sunset for lovely views while you soak the day away.

Richfield, Utah: Fuel Up and Stock Up
Next Stop: Richfield for lunch at the Ideal Dairy. They offer scrumptious bagel paninis, fresh sandwiches, soups & salads, and for dessert- tasty ice cream and a large selection of sweet treats. We can recommend the Chicken Monterey bagel panini with cream of broccoli soup or the BBQ Chicken Bacon panini with chili. Both were delicious!
Richfield is also the best place in the area for re-stocking supplies. With its large commercial shopping district featuring big box stores, chain restaurants, and local eats all in one spot.
Day Trip to Capital Reef National Park
Take a day trip to Capital Reef National Park, only an hour and a half drive from Monroe. The stunning canyon and unique red rock formations are worth the visit. Explore the Fruita Historic District and experience the fruit orchards and the original homestead.
Stop by the historic Gifford House for fresh made pies from the parks fruit orchards. The house also serves as a museum with exhibits featuring pioneer history.

Enjoy the 8-mile scenic drive, take in the sights at the Fremont Culture Petroglyphs, and choose from tons of hiking trails that take you further into the beautiful red rocks.
The Grand Wash Trail made for a great family hike through the canyons and narrows. For more adventure, continue on the Grand Wash Trail to the Cassidy Arch Trail. A steady climb will take you to the canyon’s rim where you can take in views of the Cassidy Arch, named for the infamous outlaw, Butch Cassidy.
Sevier: The Big Rock Candy Mountain Bike Trail
Hop on this delightful 7-mile paved bike path from that leads from the trailhead in Sevier, UT (just off Highway 89) and ends at the Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort. The trailhead has pit toilet restroom facilities and a large parking area.

This easy ride is built on an old railway and features a 200-foot historic train tunnel. The path is wide, nicely paved, and runs alongside the scenic Sevier River. You’ll be treated to stunning views of mountains, water, and unique rock formations as you journey through the canyon.

Stop at Candy Mountain and see the cabooses- charming old railway cars that you can actually rent for a fun and unique stay. Looking for more Utah bike trails? Check out our post- Cycling Utah: 4 Epic Bike Trails You Need to Ride (plus a fun bonus ride!)
Backcountry Explorations in Sevier County
There are so many unique and interesting backcountry roads and OHV/ATV trails in Sevier County to explore. We took the scenic route to dinner one evening from Monroe to Marysvale and were treated to magnificent views of the surrounding canyons and mountains.

The trails in Sevier County are steeped in history. Sections of the Old Spanish Trail and former logging and mining paths now serve as a network of trails for ATV, hiking, and mountain biking. This includes the very popular Paiute ATV Trail, one of the largest ATV trail systems in the US!
Marysvale, Utah
After a day of exploration, we found ourselves in Marysvale. This fun town is rich with gold mining heritage. Visitors can try their luck panning for gold in this historic prospecting town.

Following a recommendation from some local residents, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Tomatoes Pizza Pie in Marysvale. The pizza was amazing, and the staff were so friendly!
Monroe Canyon: Sweet Treats and RV Charm
And for a sweet finale, we headed back to Monroe for ice cream at the Monroe Canyon RV Park. This is also where we stayed during our visit to the area. It is a wonderful, family-owned RV park. The owners are super friendly, and we highly recommend staying here if you have an RV.
There is a fun gift shop with ice cream on site, as well as farm animals to visit (goats, chickens, and rabbits). The ice cream is divine! You don’t have to be a park guest to enjoy a sweet treat, visitors are welcome to stop by and indulge their sweet tooth.
