Discover Lincoln
Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild
Immerse yourself in the unique outdoor art installations at Blackfoot Pathways. This sculpture park features works by artists from around the world, inspired by the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area.
Lincoln Ranger Station
Stop by the National Forest Ranger Station just across the road to explore the Grizzly Bear Exhibit. Here, you can learn about the local wildlife and pick up maps and brochures for nearby trails, parks, and businesses.
Continental Divide Trail
Take a hike on the Continental Divide Trail, which offers stunning views and a chance to experience the rugged beauty of Montana’s wilderness.
The Trail runs from Mexico to Canada, passing through five US states. This 3000+ mile trail connects communities all throughout the Rocky Mountains.
Lincoln was the first Continental Divide Trail (CDT) Gateway community. There are three access points from Lincoln to trailheads for visitors and hikers. Stemple Pass, Flescher Pass, and Rogers Pass.
Nearby Ovando
Just up the road you will find charming Ovando, known for endless outdoor recreation activities throughout the surrounding mountains and the Blackfoot River. This area was also part of the early Lewis and Clark Expeditions. After finding the Pacific Ocean and starting their return trip, the duo split up for a short time to gather more information on routes to the ocean.
Clark proceeded down a southern route toward the Yellowstone River and Lewis explored this area along the Blackfoot River. The group joined back together where the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers meet and then continued their return trip home.
Lunch in Ovando: Stray Bullet Cafe
A great lunch stop! We met the lovely owner and enjoyed delicious soup and sandwiches for lunch. Highly recommend the ‘Traveler’, a hearty Reuben sandwich. The kids decided on breakfast that included giant pancakes that did not disappoint. Don’t miss out on the homemade pie for dessert. We couldn’t decide between cherry and mixed berry….so we just had to get a slice of each. Served warm with ice cream on top, they were both absolutely delicious!
Ovando History: Brand Bar Museum and Gallery
Right across the street from the café, take a stroll through the area’s early history as you browse the exhibits in the museum. It’s a perfect day to round off your day with a bit of local culture and history.
Dining in Lincoln
Back in Lincoln- enjoy a meal at the Wheel Inn Tavern, official home of the “wheel burger”, or stop by the Scapegoat Eatery for a specialty pizza. Both are very popular restaurants in town. We ran out of time during this visit, but we’ll definitely have to check them out next time!
Shop Lincoln
Carve Me A Bear Custom Chainsaw Carvings
Driving through the main road of town, you’ll pass Carve Me A Bear- Custom Chainsaw Carvings. Yes, it’s just as cool as it sounds. Marvel at the intricate chainsaw carvings and maybe even take home a unique piece of art. You may be lucky enough to visit on a day when they are actively creating the pieces!
Hi Country Trading Post
Famous for their delicious jerky, this fun shop also has ice cream, gifts and souvenirs, locally made Montana products, and tons of huckleberry goodies!
We had a great day exploring the Lincoln, getting outside and into the forest, and finding new and exciting things. We can’t wait to visit again! Find more of our favorite small towns here.
